Ethernet Retrofits & Security Cameras in Bothell, WA

A lot of Bothell housing went up in the 80s and 90s — solidly built, but wired for telephones, not gigabit. We retrofit Cat6 through existing walls and crawl spaces, turning coax-and-phone-jack houses into properly networked homes.

The 1980s and 90s homes in Canyon Park, Maywood Hills and Queensgate were built with phone jacks and coax, not data cable. They usually have an attic and often a crawlspace, which makes them good retrofit candidates. The surprises come from framing: vaulted ceilings, bonus rooms over the garage and past remodels can block a path, and those runs take longer. North Creek and the newer developments toward Mill Creek were built with more wiring in place, often a structured panel with Cat5e or Cat6 runs. Those jobs are mostly about testing and connecting what's there. The existing coax is useful too: if a new cable can't reach an upstairs room, MoCA adapters can carry the network over a live coax jack.

Plenty of Bothell homes have powerline adapters or plug-in extenders doing a job they weren't built for. A direct Cat6 run to the room, or to a ceiling access point, gives you full gigabit speed and steady latency that powerline can't match.

Bothell straddles King and Snohomish Counties, but the low-voltage rule is the same statewide: data cabling inside a house doesn't need a permit. Electrical work — new circuits, EV chargers, panel upgrades — is permitted and inspected through the city or Washington L&I, whichever applies, and we pull it. The electric utility depends on your side of the county line: Puget Sound Energy on the King County side, Snohomish County PUD on the Snohomish side.
