Wi-Fi, Ethernet & Camera Installation in Mukilteo, WA
Wired access points for multi-level view homes, Cat6 retrofits, PoE cameras and permitted electrical work across Mukilteo.
Low-Voltage Work Across Mukilteo
Mukilteo is built on a hill that drops to the water, and the houses follow it: daylight basements, three levels on a sloped lot, and the living room on the view side a long way from wherever the cable comes in. That layout is hard on a single router. Most of our work here is wired access points on each level, fed by Cat6 we retrofit through closets, the attic and the crawlspace.
We also install PoE cameras with local recording, wire home offices for people who split the week between home and the Boeing plant or the Seattle commute, and set up smart lighting. When a project needs a new circuit, an EV charger or a panel replacement, our electricians handle it in the same visit.
Mukilteo Homes and What They Mean for Wiring
Old Town, around the ferry dock and Lighthouse Park, has the oldest houses in the city, some from the early 1900s, with plaster in the older ones and a century of additions. Plaster needs a gentler approach than drywall, so we route through closets, the attic and the basement first and only cut where there is no alternative. Up the hill in Olympic View and along the Mukilteo Speedway, the housing is mostly 1960s through 80s: ramblers, split-levels and daylight-basement homes stepped into the slope. The crawlspace or basement is usually the cable path, and the daylight basement is where the router ends up, which is exactly the wrong place for Wi-Fi upstairs.
Harbour Pointe was developed from the 1980s onward as a planned community, and it is most of south Mukilteo: two-story and split-entry homes on curving streets, newer phases from the 90s and 2000s, and condos and townhomes near the golf course. The later homes often have some Cat5e and coax in the walls and sometimes a structured panel. We test what is there before pulling anything new, and a clean existing run is one we don't have to replace. Vaulted great rooms and bonus rooms over the garage are the framing surprises that slow a run down.
Waterfront and bluff homes in Chennault Beach and along the shore usually want cameras on both the street side and the water side, Wi-Fi that reaches the deck, and often a link to a detached garage at the top of the lot. Outdoor cameras and access points run on the same PoE cabling as everything else, and the cable path decides where a camera can realistically go. Our outdoor camera placement guide explains how we pick spots, and our comparison of mesh and wired access points explains why we don't just add another node.
Permits and inspections in Mukilteo
Data cabling inside a house doesn't need a permit anywhere in Washington, and Mukilteo is no different. Security alarm systems are the exception and need an electrical permit. Electrical work, new circuits, EV chargers and panel replacements, is permitted and inspected. Mukilteo's Permit Center handles building permits inside the city, but the city doesn't run its own electrical program, so electrical permits go through Washington L&I and we pull them. Addresses just outside the city, in Picnic Point or toward Paine Field, are unincorporated and fall under Snohomish County Planning and Development Services for building permits, with electrical still through L&I. Mukilteo is Snohomish County PUD territory, so a panel upgrade that changes the service is scheduled with the PUD.

FAQ
Answers To The Frequently Asked Questions.
A wired access point on each level. Sloped-lot homes put the modem in the daylight basement and the living spaces two levels up on the view side, and no single router or mesh kit covers that through two floors of framing. One Cat6 run per level, usually up a stacked closet or down from the attic, solves it for good.
Yes. Some have plaster walls and a century of additions, so the work is slower and more deliberate than in Harbour Pointe. We route through closets, the attic and the basement first, keep any unavoidable opening to wall-plate size, and tell you during the walkthrough which runs are likely to be the hard ones.
Yes. The water side usually means a deck or a stair down the bluff, and the camera goes under the eave or on a post where outdoor-rated PoE cable can reach cleanly. We aim to avoid the bright sky over the Sound, which otherwise washes the image out, and the camera records locally like the rest of the system.
A wired drop to the desk, an access point near the office rather than across the house, and a small battery backup on the network gear so a power blip doesn't drop a call. If your employer has rules about separating work devices from the home network, we can set up a separate network for them.
No. Washington doesn't require a permit or inspection for data or camera cabling inside a house. Security alarm systems are the exception. Electrical work such as an EV charger circuit is permitted through Washington L&I, since Mukilteo doesn't run its own electrical program, and we handle that.
